FIRE...in January?!?!?!?!

So..., yesterday afternoon while driving home from Lakewood after picking up the last of my belongings from my apartment I could see smoke off in the distance coming from an area of Boulder that appeared to be fairly close to our new place. As it turned out, a grass fire had been started, sparked by 80 mph winds that blew down a transformer, in the hills a mile north of our place. The picture above was taken later that evening. The fire burned for almost 12 hours and in the end, burned almost 3500 acres. Nobody was injured from the fire but at least one home was lost. Annalise made the comment, " I left California where there's always fire only to come here and this place is on fire!" Funny!

The fire was contained that last night with only some hot spots remaining. If there's a bright side to this it's that the trails up on that mountain will be great for running come Spring time.
